Thunderstorm limits the new Record

The joint effort of the south east contest group and the DF0MTL crew went into the fourth round. This time operation took place at the Deditzhöhe, JO61JF.

The efforts to set up the 2m and 70cm antennas started on Friday noon by DL2LSM and DK3WE. The plan had been to erect both systems during the afternoon since DL2LSM had other commitments for Saturday morning. Unfortunately, we have only been able to set up the 8-by-6 element 2m system because we were heavily hampered by a thunderstorm which we sat out in the car.

Thus, we had to get the 70cm system up Saturday.  The weather forecast promised some better weather. However, as usual it had just been a false promise. We were joined by the Nuremberg team DG8AM,  DJ7AT, and DG2NMH and set up the 8-by-19 element 70cm system in heavy rain.

The GHz station was set up by Jens DH0LS as usually.

Luckily, the rain stopped before the real fun started.  The contest went pretty well except for the fact that we have had to stop operating for about forty minutes on Sunday early afternoon when another thunderstorm hit. So, the results look very promising with respect to defend our 3rd place in the German Contest Trophy. Well done, guys.

We are especially happy with the 2m result. It is an all time high in number of QSOs as well as points. It could have been even better without the unfortunate forced break.

Thanks everybody for the contacts and we hope to see everybody – and hopefully a few more – in September from JN59RJ.
